Institutional adoption of blockchain infrastructure is expanding beyond trading and custody into broader financial services such as credit markets and lending. As these markets develop, institutions require platforms that combine programmable blockchain infrastructure with the governance, transparency, and custody protections expected in regulated financial environments.

BitGo is supporting the launch of Haven Digital Partners’ institutional peer-to-peer lending marketplace on the Canton Network, serving as the qualified custodian for the assets used on the platform.

Haven’s permissioned marketplace enables KYC-verified institutions and accredited investors to lend and borrow Canton-native assets including Canton Coin, USDCx, and cBTC, while maintaining qualified custody through BitGo’s platform.

Bringing Institutional Credit Markets Onchain

While decentralized lending markets have grown rapidly in recent years, most protocols were designed for open and anonymous participation. Institutional investors often require additional controls around counterparty visibility, legal enforceability, and operational governance.

Haven’s lending platform introduces a structure designed for institutional participants by combining programmable blockchain infrastructure with traditional financial agreements. Lending relationships are established directly between counterparties, allowing participants to negotiate terms such as interest rates, loan duration, collateral levels, and repayment structures.

This bilateral model allows institutions to structure credit relationships based on counterparty risk and reputation, rather than relying on pooled liquidity models that dominate retail-oriented DeFi lending platforms.

Automated Collateral and Settlement Infrastructure

Haven’s lending platform leverages the Canton Network’s programmable architecture to automate several key operational processes involved in lending markets.

Collateral positions are continuously monitored and adjusted through automated margin management. The platform performs margin checks and settlement updates approximately every Canton round, enabling near-continuous collateral management.

Loan installments and settlement workflows are also executed automatically through smart contracts, reducing the manual reconciliation and operational overhead traditionally associated with institutional lending.

In addition to traditional collateralized loans, the platform also supports undercollateralized lending arrangements, enabled by the permissioned nature of the marketplace, where known counterparties can negotiate terms directly.

Custody Infrastructure for Institutional Participants

BitGo provides custody infrastructure for assets used on the Haven lending platform. Participants can securely custody their digital assets with BitGo while interacting with Haven’s marketplace, allowing institutions to participate in lending activity without compromising asset protection.

All clients are subject to identity verification and compliance screening, and activity is monitored across both onchain and offchain systems.

Expanding Financial Infrastructure on Canton

The launch of Haven’s lending marketplace represents another step in the expansion of institutional financial infrastructure on the Canton Network.

As the ecosystem continues to evolve, new applications are emerging that bring traditional financial services such as settlement, collateral management, and credit markets onto blockchain networks designed for institutional participants.

By providing custody infrastructure for these applications, BitGo continues to support the development of secure and scalable digital asset markets for institutional investors.
